THE CONSTITUTION OF THE HELDERBERG GOLFING ASSOCIATION
FORMATION:
The Helderberg Golfing Association was formed in 1975.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The aims and objectives of the Helderberg Golfing Association are:

To foster a spirit of good fellowship between members, through periodic outings to various golf courses in the Western Cape.

To enjoy and spread the Royal and Ancient traditions of St.Andrew's Golf Club, as well as raising monies to be distributed to registered charities, as the committee sees fit.
THE SEASON:
The season shall commence with the August Competition and end in the following July.
MANAGEMENT:
The Club’s affairs shall be in the hands of an elected committee consisting of the Captain, Vice-Captain, Secretary and Treasurer, who shall be elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting every year. The committee has the option to co-opt a maximum of two additional members when deemed necessary. The term of office for the Club-Captain shall be a maximum of two years. When he retires the Vice-Captain shall automatically be elected Captain. The committee shall be elected by the members at the Annual General meeting. 60% majority of the members shall constitute a quorum at any Annual General Meeting.
MEMBERSHIP:
Membership shall be open to male and female members. Honorary membership shall be bestowed from time to time on members as seen fit by the committee. The committee shall be empowered at all times to make decisions binding on the membership where these decisions do not contravene this constitution. Members, who have no official handicap, playing at other clubs shall submit all their cards to the club handicapper. Failure to do so could, at the discretion of the committee, result in a handicap reduction of up to four strokes.
MEMBERSHIP FEE:
The Membership fee shall be decided each year by the committee and be payable by 1st September of the then-current year. Monies shall be paid to the Club Treasurer and deposited in the HGA Account.

FORFEITURE OF MEMBERSHIP:
Membership shall cease if a member falls in arrears with his membership fees and fails to meet this commitment after a due warning by the committee. Such a member shall be deemed to be a visitor after this date and shall pay visitor’s fees until such time as the current subscription has been paid in full. Membership shall also cease if the majority of the committee believes that continued membership of the member in question is not appropriate, taking into consideration the aims and objectives of the HGA.
COMPETITION & GREEN FEES:
Competitions shall be held once a month at the venues decided by the committee. Members shall obey the rules and etiquette required by the host Club. The quantum of green fees, as decided by the committee from time to time, will be collected via a deposit into the HGA bank account prior to the game or by the starting team of the day. The choice of the competition shall be decided by the committee and sponsor of the day jointly. In the event a tie, the winner shall be decided on a count-out. In the event of a tie for the club championships, a sudden death play-off will ensue.
HANDICAPPING:
Non-affiliated members shall be handicapped by a designated committee member by the Captain. All visitors and new members shall play off a maximum of 18 strokes for men and 24 strokes for ladies.
QUALIFICATION FOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS:
The HGA Club Championship Competition (and other trophy competitions) shall be open only to bona fide members of the club. Other prizes shall be open to all, excepting first prize on a singles competition day. In order to be eligible to play trophies, club members must have played a minimum of 3 games in the year preceding the club championships. Club Championships will be decided over 36 holes at a date decided upon by the committee.
Accepted by the Captain, Vice-Captain, Treasurer, Secretary and other Committee Members as binding on all future committees of the Helderberg Golfing Association on 11 August 2019.
